Canadian industry statistics were released for 2022 at our recent conference in Montreal. While both total sales and the number of independent sales consultants (ISCs) were down against 2021, the context of the past few years means that the statistics provided some positives.
Total Sales
Sales for the Canadian direct selling industry in 2022 came in at C$3.375 billion. In comparison to 2021, total sales were down by 18%, but up 3% against the last “normal” pre-COVID year in 2019. With direct sellers continuing to embrace innovative technology and new product categories, the outlook for 2023 and beyond is a move back to incremental year-over-year growth.
Total ISCs
ISC numbers stood at just over 1.1 million in 2022. While this was also down on 2021 numbers, and reflects change in economic drivers post-COVID, it also hints at the efforts of direct selling companies to effectively categorize participants and customers.
