Annual Ottawa Lobby Day a Great Success in 2019

Wayne Easter Meeting
Date: 03 May, 2019

On Thursday May 2, 2019, members of the Direct Sellers Association of Canada (DSA) gathered in Ottawa for their annual Lobby Day, with a focus on promoting the important economic and social role that the direct selling industry plays in Canada.

Among the topics discussed were:

  • The importance of low trade barriers to success and stability in the direct selling industry. In particular, points of discussion centered on the need to continue work on removing current Canada-US tariffs and ratifying the updated NAFTA agreement.
  • Finding a suitable balance between business-positive regulation and adequate oversight for the direct selling channel and for the products sold by DSA members.
  • Ensuring ongoing recognition of the important role that direct selling does and can play for key demographic groups including women, immigrants and seniors.
  • The DSA’s support for expanding broadband internet access to all Canadians. Direct selling is a particularly important business channel for people in rural areas and better access to modern communication tools will boost entrepreneurship, connectivity, and access to products and services.

Over its sixty-five-year history, the DSA has placed a focus on meeting with elected officials, at events such as the Ottawa Lobby Day. “Days like these are important” said DSA President Peter Maddox, “they help support future collaboration and lead to year-round opportunities to engage and consult on a range of important topics.”
