Event Recap: Legal & Regulatory Seminar

LR Speakers Image

On February 7, DSA Canada held our Annual Legal and Regulatory Seminar. This year, it was held as a virtual, member-only event, which encouraged the attendance of company executives from across North America and provided a wide array of valuable information to participants.

The seminar gave members an opportunity to catch up on important updates and issues impacting the direct selling industry in Canada. Speakers participating shared expertise across the legal, regulatory and compliance fields.

Highlights of the event included:

  • A spotlight on Canada’s Modern Slavery Act, which aims to increase transparency in supply chains and introduces an annual reporting requirement for select Canadian businesses. Read more about this initiative here.
  • An update on impending language legislation in Quebec, which could impact how companies label and brand their products. Read about Bill 96 here.
  • Further information on Health Canada’s management of the Natural Health Products file and how industry pressure is helping to create change.
  • Discussion on topics as diverse as greenwashing, trademarks, tax, customs, and an update on the Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (DSSRC).

Thank you to all speakers and attendees for making this a successful event. Members can view speaker presentations by visiting the Member Login section of DSA.ca.
